Viva Energy Australia’s new Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) tank at Pinkenba Terminal was officially launched today by Queensland Treasurer and Minister for Energy David Janetski, marking an important development in Australia’s journey towards a lower-emission aviation sector.
The Treasurer was joined at the launch by local Member for Clayfield Tim Nicholls MP, alongside Viva Energy Chairman Sarah Ryan and CEO Scott Wyatt, at our Pinkenba Terminal in Brisbane.
The dedicated tank will allow SAF to be stored, blended, tested and supplied directly into Brisbane Airport’s existing fuel system, helping put the infrastructure in place to support greater use of lower-emissions aviation fuel in Australia.
SAF can be made from waste-based feedstocks such as used cooking oil and is a drop-in solution, meaning it can be blended with conventional jet fuel and used in existing aircraft and airport fuel infrastructure without requiring changes to engines or supply systems.
With this new infrastructure now in place at Pinkenba, Viva Energy is helping build a more practical pathway for SAF supply, supporting airlines, customers and industry partners as they work towards a lower-emissions future for aviation.
