Woolworths has increased its market share of the alcohol retail market to a total of 50.1% of all packaged alcohol, according to Roy Morgan’s Alcohol Retail Currency Report.

Dan Murphy’s had the biggest increase of share of market, up 1.2% in the 12 months to March 2018. Coles Group saw a small decline in share of market for alcohol retail, with the decline attributed to small gains in share for Liquorland and Vintage Cellars and a drop of 1.2% in share of market at First Choice. Coca Cola Amatil (CCL) will reduce sugar content in its non-alcohol portfolio by 20% by 2025, as part of an industry-wide pledge announced by the Australian Beverages Council (ABCL) in Canberra yesterday. The ABCL’s Sugar Pledge sets an ambitious target for member beverage makers as part of a proactive commitment to support healthier lifestyles. The pledge builds on CCL’s existing commitment to a 10% reduction in sugar from 2016 levels by 2020. CCL said “we’re on track to meet that target and look forward to delivering on Pledge as well”.
