‘What might seem novel today could be the standard tomorrow,’ company says in blog post

Walmart is testing a new service that delivers grocery straight to your kitchen, with no need to be at home for the delivery man.
Financial news website The Street reports the trials are underway in Silicon Valley, in partnership with a home-security service called August.
“You are in control of the experience the entire time — the moment the specialist arrives, you receive a notification on your phone that the delivery is occurring,” August wrote Thursday on the company’s official blog. “You can even choose to watch the delivery take place in real-time through the August app or view a recording of it any time through the August app.
“You can watch the Deliv specialist exit and the door automatically locks behind them — securely with August’s exclusive DoorSense™ technology,” the San Francisco-based company added. “With a final alert confirming the door is locked and delivery completed, you can go on with your day knowing your home is safe and secure.”
In a blog post Friday announcing the partnership, Walmart said “what might seem novel today could be the standard tomorrow.”
“This may not be for everyone — and certainly not right away — but we want to offer customers the opportunity to participate in tests today and help us shape what commerce will look like in the future,” the company wrote.
