Yesterday, the Fair Work Amendment (Protecting Vulnerable Workers) Bill 2017 was passed by the Federal Parliament. This Bill contains a number of measures to amend the Fair Work Act 2009, including changes to hold certain franchisors responsible for underpayments by their franchisees where they knew, or reasonably should have known, about the contraventions of the Act and failed to take reasonable steps to prevent them.
The new franchisor liability will start six weeks after the Bill receives royal assent. We will send you more detailed information once it is available.
You can find further information about the Bill on the Fair Work Ombudsman’s website.
