Highlights of the report include:

  • In Q4 2022, all but three countries (Canada, Denmark and Honduras) experienced gains in convenience store value sales versus a year ago.
  • Within the countries delivering growth, 10 saw double-digit growth, with six of those in Latin America and four in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Growth was particularly strong in Argentina, Colombia, Peru and Brazil, while inflation was most pronounced in Argentina and Colombia.

“Few strategic issues are unique to local markets and most issues, opportunities and challenges exist globally. However, each country might be in a different stage for a certain issue,” said Henry Armour, NACS president and CEO. “Knowing which region is in which state on an issue supports learning from best practices, preparing for change and advancing one’s business. It gives guidance for where to look and what to look out for.”

There are more than one million convenience stores globally. The NIQ/NACS Fourth-Quarter Global Convenience Store Industry Report uncovers global issues, opportunities and challenges and contributes to a global understanding of trends impacting individual trade areas for the global convenience store industry.
