Analyst: Heat-Not-Burn Will Revolutionize Tobacco Industry

March 14, 2016, CSNews Platform may change the trajectory of smoking. NEW YORK — The next step in tobacco products could be heat-not-burn technology, stated one industry analyst. According to a Wells Fargo Securities LLC 10-year analysis on the market potential for Philip Morris International’s (PMI) iQOS platform, the heat-not-burn technology “has the potential to change the trajectory of smoking,” said Bonnie Herzog, managing director of tobacco, beverage and convenience store research at Wells Fargo Securities. The belief that this technology could revolutionize the global tobacco industry comes amid different attitudes toward risk and regulatory constraints on behavior, Herzog noted. There were several key takeaways from the Wells Fargo Securities analysis. According to Herzog, iQOS is a competitive advantage for both PMI and The Altria Group Inc. given its “superior technology, first-mover advantage with commercialization/clinical trials, and ability to leverage the Marlboro brand globally.” In late 2013, Richmond, Va.-based Altria…

Taxing your Coca-Cola. Refreshing!

Jason Murphy March 19 2016 News.com.au GET ready for a new tax on sugary drinks. The idea, which popped up after the UK announced a tax on Coke, Fanta, etc. this week, is one of those things Australia will love. But we should only do it on one condition. Who could oppose such a thing?! Australia loves this sort of “sin tax”. We already happily tax fuel, booze and cigarettes at quite high levels. If and when the idea comes to Australia, the sugar industry will raise a stink. But Queensland canegrowers are a much smaller part of Australia’s economy these days so they won’t have the sway they once did. And they export…

Wawa Opens Its First CNG Station at N.J. C-store

March 4, 2016 CSNews Renewable fuel touted as more environmentally friendly option. PAULSBORO, N.J. — Wawa Inc. opened its first compressed natural gas (CNG) fueling station here Thursday through a venture partnership with South Jersey Gas Co., reported CBS Philly. Wawa Vice President Brian Schaller said CNG only powers 150,000 vehicles in the United States, but those numbers are rapidly increasing and the convenience store and fuel operator wants to be ahead of the curve when it comes to providing renewable fuel sources. “Compressed natural gas is a worthy alternative to traditional fuels like gasoline and diesel,” Schaller said. “Gasoline and diesel are still going to be a dominant fuel in this country, our infrastructure is built around it, but there’s no question over the next 25 years, it’s projected to decline 10 percent.” Wawa officials said in addition to being cleaner burning, CNG vehicles show an average reduction in…
