THE Australian Taxation Office has seized a record $15.4 million haul of illegal tobacco growing on a northern Victorian farm.
A community tip-off led to the ATO raid of the “large and sophisticated” growing and processing operation at Dingwall, near Kerang.
Around 22 hectares of mature “chop chop” crops were discovered growing on the property last Wednesday and were destroyed along with five large kilns containing 24 tonnes of tobacco leaf.
