Froyo Robotics is expanding its product offering and presence with the acquisition of Coca-Cola Amatil’s LUMI brand and entry into an exclusive licence arrangement1 with Coca-Cola Amatil for the manufacture and distribution its range of dairy-free, fruit-based soft serves2.
The acquisition and licensing arrangement is between the Perfect Fruit Company (a subsidiary of Coca-Cola Amatil) and the entity LUMI Impossibly Good Pty Ltd, which is owned by Froyo Robotics.
Froyo Robotics Managing Director Troy Bingham said the acquisition included the LUMI brand and all LUMI self-serve machines already in channels including restaurants, convenience, hospitals, theme parks, entertainment centres and universities.
“Froyo Robotics owns the highly successful Reis and Irvys robotic soft serve business in Australia. So when the opportunity came up to acquire the LUMI brand and enter into the exclusive license arrangement, it was a natural progression for us”.
“The LUMI product has excellent consumer feedback and Coca-Cola Amatil has done a very professional job getting the business to the level it can now be rolled out internationally”.
“To be able to control the entire supply chain from manufacture to consumer makes sense, it is the way business is moving. The combination of LUMI’s proprietary product, with Froyo Robotics unattended retail solutions, will be unique in the marketplace”.
LUMI is a dairy-free, low-fat soft serve currently made from fruits sourced from the Goulburn Valley. Current flavours include strawberry, mango and mixed berry. The name LUMI means ‘light of life’ in Latin, ‘snow’ in Finnish, and is an urban text acronym for ‘Love U, Mean It’. A serve of LUMI contains around 75 calories, less than an apple.3
The decision on LUMI follows Coca-Cola Amatil’s 2019 divestment of food processing business SPC in June 2019, reinforcing its regional beverages powerhouse strategy by simplifying the manufacturing model and strengthening customer focus.
Australia is a premier market for soft serve, with one recent study finding Australians are second in the world as ice cream lovers, behind Norway.4 LUMI is currently available at outlets including Oporto, Warner Village Theme Parks, Australia Zoo, Cineplex, Hospitals and Universities.
1 excluding India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives.
3 Less than 75 calories per large 148g serve. 1 medium apple weighing approx. 182g has approx. 95 calories.

Froyo Robotics intends to take the product into schools, airports, malls and expand further into the hospital, university and retail sectors, and to grow the brand internationally. Froyo Robotics will also develop complementary products such as smoothies, shakes, slushies and hard pack ice cream tubs using the same brand and non-dairy focus.
