CHRISTMAS DAY workers will get paid penalty rates after a last minute backflip by the Andrews Government.
Christmas, which falls on a Sunday, will now officially be a public holiday after Small Business Minister Philip Dalidakis admitted he made the wrong decision.
Victorians will also keep the Tuesday after Christmas as a day off, meaning the state will have the most public holidays in the country this year.
The change of heart came after unions criticised the government for not proclaiming Christmas as a public holiday.
