Amazon is still not saying when it expects to launch in Australia, but it has announced the man who will be in charge of its local operations. Amazon has chosen an insider for the job, which was once tipped as a possible opening for Australia Post’s Ahmed Fahour. German-born former consultant Rocco Braeuniger who has been working for Amazon for 11 years will start as its Australian country manager in “coming months”. Amazon has already launched a massive recruitment drive in Melbourne and Sydney. There is talk of recruiting hundreds of sales staff for Amazon’s new Park street headquarters in Sydney. Amazon has also announced it will create “hundreds of new jobs” opening its first Australian fulfilment centre in Melbourne. It is now recruiting for roles such as operations managers, pickers, packers, systems technicians and HR specialists. The planned 24,000 square metre fulfilment centre has already been announced. Analysts expect Amazon to launch in Australia next year, although this could still happen before Christmas.
