Amazon Australia has launched Amazon Business, a new B2B marketplace for office products, electronics, furniture, and other on-the-job essentials.
The new online marketplace promises business-only pricing and volume discounts on a wide range of items.
In a clear challenge to incumbents like Officeworks, registered Amazon Business users can shop items spanning non-slip mats to toilet paper and Bluetooth speakers.
Membership is free, with extra benefits available through a paid Amazon Prime membership.
Individual Amazon Prime members will be eligible for free shipping and delivery options through the new Business Prime system.
Growing businesses with up to five users can access Business Prime for $79 per year, scaling up to $699 per year for teams of 200.
Those larger multi-user accounts come with extra features like dedicated customer support and purchase approval workflows, allowing finance managers to have the final say on staff purchases.
Amazon Business will also offer what it calls ‘guided buying’, allowing managers to set product preferences and spending limits, ensuring procurement budgets do not blow out.
In a statement, Lena Zak, Amazon Business Australia country manager, said the system will help businesses across the country streamline their operations while keeping a tight handle on costs.
“As operating costs keep rising, Amazon Business can help take some of that pressure off by offering meaningful savings on everyday goods and supplies, along with the convenience and simplicity of our delivery experience,” she said.
Australia is Amazon Business’ eleventh market, after previous launches across North America, western Europe, India, and Japan.
Amazon is promoting the service in the lead-up to the end of the financial year, offering 30% off, up to $100, on eligible purchases before June 30.
