AACS: FURTHER INCREASES TO TOBACCO EXCISE WILL HAVE UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES

Reports that the Government is considering another hefty increase in tobacco excise to fill its budget hole is bad news for retailers, according to the Australasian Association of Convenience Stores (AACS).

AACS Chief Executive Officer Jeff Rogut said seeking to recover the budget deficit with yet another increase on tobacco excise would not only represent unimaginative and lazy policy, it would also have serious unintended consequences.
