Coles increases fuel discount for convenience shoppers

Coles has increased petrol discounts from today until next Sunday to the highest level in 18 months, offering savings of up to 18c per litre, which includes a 4c-a-litre discount when purchasing a Shell Coles Express store item, a further 10c for spending more than $20 at Coles Express, and its standard 4c discount for a $30-plus supermarket spend. The offer is 4c-per-litre more generous than its usual maximum discount. Rival Woolworths has a 4c-a-litre saving on $30-plus supermarket spends and gives 4c a litre off for spends of at least $5 inside Caltex Woolworths outlets. The Coles deal comes just days after the Reserve Bank of Australia highlighted widening petrol refining and retail margins, noting a jump in fuel prices for the June quarter was “only partly explained by higher international prices for crude oil and the depreciation of the dollar”.
