A HUNGRY customer is hopping mad, claiming a live green frog popped out of a convenience store wrap.

The Royal Children’s Hospital staff member said they had bought the wrap, a soft drink and a packet of biscuits for lunch from the Rainbow Convenience store inside the hospital complex on February 19.

The staffer ate the first half of the wrap in a hospital theatre dining room, but narrowly missed having a frog in the throat on picking up the second half to have the slippery intruder fall out.

“It was a live green frog around 3cm long (sic),” the startled customer described in a complaint letter. “I hope there wasn’t one in the other half because it’s in my stomach.”

The staffer said the wrap, manufactured by Breadwinner, was sealed in a plastic container when it was purchased.

The staffer returned the wrap and its contents to the convenience store staff, who refunded him $9.

David Breadmore, CEO of Fairbank Grange Property, which owns the Rainbow Convenience store, refused to comment when contacted twice by the Herald Sun.
Breadwinner director Maarten Pinkster said the company had axed its lettuce supplier after investigating the claim.

“We were stunned, as we have not had such an incident before. We took the matter very seriously and responded immediately,” Mr Pinkster said in a statement to the Herald Sun. “We spoke with the doctor, humbly apologised and provided a gift voucher as a matter of goodwill.

“Concurrently, we followed up with the lettuce supplier and have subsequently not used them again.”
