Beverage company Bega Group is moving to use 100 per cent recycled plastic bottles for its entire flavoured milk and iced coffee range.
From today, Dare Iced Coffee, Big M and Dairy Farmers Classic branded products will be rolled out in rPET plastic or recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic bottles.
The Farmers Union Iced Coffee brand will transition in May followed by the Masters brand in July.
The company’s Juice Brothers brand – which is already packaged in 100 per cent recycled and recyclable plastic (excluding caps and labels) – recently received Carbon Neutral certification for its 1.5l bottle product range.
Darryn Wallace, executive GM of Bega dairy and drinks, said the brand is doing its bit to contribute to a more circular economy.
“About 82.5 per cent of Bega’s packaging is already reusable, recyclable or compostable and the launch of rPET will contribute to our packaging targets further by significantly reducing the amount of virgin plastic we use as a business.” The company aims for about 50 per cent of its products to use recycled packaging materials and 100 per cent of to be either reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025.
