Bega has announced that its impulse milk beverage range will be made from 100 per cent recycled packaging (excluding cap and label).
The move means Bega is moving closer to its target of having approximately 50 per cent of its products use recycled materials and 100 per cent of its products being either reusable, recyclable, or compostable by 2025.
The range, which includes all Big M, Dairy Farmers Classic, and Dare products under one litre, will be made from 100 per cent rPET and will be fully rolled out by September 2023.
Darryn Wallace, Executive General Manager of Bega Dairy and Drinks, said they are pleased to be doing their bit to contribute to a more circular economy for Australia.
“Already 82.5 per cent of Bega’s packaging is reusable, recyclable or compositable and the launch of rPET will contribute to our packaging targets further by significantly reducing the amount of virgin plastic we use as a business in line with the APCO packaging targets.”
Also announced was a carbon neutral certification awarded by Climate Action of its juice brand, The Juice Brothers’ 1.5L bottle range, meaning that the company is offsetting the carbon emitted of it’s The Juice Brothers products with 100 per cent Australian Carbon Credit Units.
Carolina Arango, Group Manager – Environment at Bega Group, said they are delighted to invest in nature-based solution projects that provide environmental and community benefits to Australia as well as reduce carbon emissions.
“Squeezing instead of crushing our orange, apple, and pear fruit to preserve the peels and re-use that as local animal feed, as well as committing to making our 1.5L bottles out of 100 per cent recycled and recyclable plastic (excluding caps and labels), are features of our products that are proudly Carbon Neutral and delicious.”
Recently, The Juice Brothers’ 100 per cent recycled and recyclable plastic bottles were recognised as a finalist in the ‘Sustainable Packaging Design of the Year’ category at this year’s Australasian Packaging Innovation and Design Awards.
