The Queensland Department of Health has today advised that implementation for point of sale display bans will commence on Friday 18 November 2011. The Department has also released an Information Guide and Flyer (attached) that details requirements for retailers.
As far as we are aware the Government has yet to release the Regulations but has stipulated the 18 November as the commencement date for the new changes. We have requested advice on timing on several occasions from the Health Minister as well as stated the industry position to allow a reasonable amount of time for such an implementation given the logistics involved as well as time of year. These requests have obviously been ignored by the Queensland government and the Queensland Department of Health.
Please be aware of these changes and talk to your suppliers about actions required to comply with the regulations when available. We will continue to put the case for a reasonable timeframe for any changes. We suggest that you also approach your local MP’s on this matter as it could well disrupt trading over the busy holiday period.
