Less than a week after Krispy Kreme launched a 24-hour drive-thru for its customers in Dublin, Ireland, the doughnut company has been forced to alter its opening hours.
Kasia Zablotna, who lived in an apartment overlooking the doughnut shop, posted a video recently of dozens of cars queuing for the baked goods late at night, beeping their horns in excitement.
The drive-thru had only been open a week but the Dublin store already told nearby residents it would be closing at 11.30pm every night after neighbours complained.
In a statement, Krispy Kreme CEO Richard Cheshire said the response to the store had “been way ahead of our most optimistic expectations”.
“We’ve listened to our neighbours and we’re making changes,” Mr Cheshire said.
“We anticipated a warm welcome for Krispy Kreme in Ireland and have long wanted to open a store here, but the response has been way ahead of our most optimistic expectations.
“For the most part too, our drive-thru has been a success but we know that the late-night noise has been an upset for our neighbours.
“Some customers have been beeping their horns and disturbing families in nearby apartment complexes.
“Most importantly, we are saying to our neighbours, we’ve listened and we’re making changes immediately.”
