Jeff Rogut
CEO AACS
Having travelled extensively over the past number of years leading our AACS overseas study tours to countries such as the USA, UK, Netherlands, Japan, Korea etc and seen the vast array of excellent convenience stores and supermarkets, I have always arrived home wondering why as consumers, and even retailers, we just accept the standard of supermarkets that we have and why the operators who no doubt also travel do not take some of the ideas from overseas if they cannot develop any good ones of their own, and offer them to their customers.
In China in the last week I had the privilege of visiting the ALIBABA Company that is truly changing retail. Already surpassing Walmart in terms of sales through their on line business established only in 1999, the recent development of their HEMA supermarket chain has to be seen.
HEMA has 46 stores currently, soon to be 100 with a target in 3 years of 500 stores in China.
