If you’ve ever been to McDonald’s, chances are you’ve also bought a coke from one of its machines.
It may just be standard Coca-Cola, but some fans claim the drink at McDonald’s is better than at any other fast food chain.
You may not agree, but the restaurant has now revealed the secret behind its most popular thirst-quencher on its website.
The reason for the drinks’s success is all to do with the way its chilled, the water purity and how the Coca-Cola syrup is stored.
According to author Mark Proffitt, who wrote a blog about why McDonald’s cola tastes better than at any other fast food chain, most Coke retailers get their syrup in a bag.
This is not the case at McDonald’s where a number of steps are taken to create the perfect tasting Coke.
One of those measures is to pre-chill the water and Coca-Cola syrup before the liquids are put into the drinks dispensers in stores.
The syrup is also measured out very precisely to make allowances for melting ice, and the machine itself is also kept very cold.
As about 85 per cent of a cola drink is made up of water, if the quality of the water isn’t good, then the drink won’t taste at its best.
McDonald’s therefore makes sure it has ‘gold standard’ filtration methods.
The way the fast food titan stores its syrup is also crucial to its resulting taste.

But McDonald’s sells so much Coca-Cola that it receives its syrup inside stainless steel cylinders, which keep it fresher.
It also is used up very quickly due to the number of sales at McDonald’s, which also contributes to its addictive taste.
The final straw is in fact all to do with the McDonald’s straw. It’s much wider than a typical straw at many other restaurants, which the eatery claims makes the drink taste better.
It said on its website: ‘The water and Coca-Cola syrup are pre-chilled before entering our fountain dispensers with the ratio of syrup set to allow for ice to melt.
‘We also keep our fountain beverage system cold so your drink can always be at the peak of refreshing.
‘In order to ensure our drinks are always meeting a gold standard, we have proper filtration methods in
place.
‘There’s also our straw – it’s slightly wider than a typical straw, so all that Coke taste can hit all your tastebuds.’
In a statement on its website, McDonald’s revealed: ‘There are many reasons the Coca-Cola tastes so great at McDonald’s. We simply follow the guidelines set by Coca-Cola and take steps to ensure it tastes the same as when you buy it in a bottle.’
