Forget mustard and tomato sauce – Ikea Japan is offering edible bamboo charcoal on their hot dogs.
The head-turning food creation is called the ‘Ninja Dog’ and is available at the store’s bistro.
And thankfully, you don’t have to assemble it yourself.
The Ninja Dog is made with edible bamboo charcoal that gives the dish its black hue.
And rather than simply adding colour, the charcoal actually has some benefits.
According to Bamboo Leaf Tea, activated bamboo charcoal can be eaten to treat food or chemical poisoning and also works as a detox for the body.
The hot dog, which is a staggering 30cm long, was released by Ikea to celebrate the store’s 10 year anniversary, according to Rocket News 24.
It retails for just 300 yen, or AU$4, and is said to be named after a Ninja’s scroll.
The hot dog is topped with the regular condiments like mustard, ketchup and jalapenos.
But it seems not everyone is convinced about the dish.
One person shared a photo of their Ninja Dog to Instagram where it was met with disgust.
‘Ugh?! What is this?! Black hot dogs?’ they wrote.
‘It’s weird but I’ll bet it tastes fine,’ said another.
And Ikea Japan is not alone in embracing the black hot dog trend, with other people sharing photos of jet black buns to Instagram.
