1. What % of shoppers around the world visit a discounter? It varies massively.
They’re in growth in many countries around the world. Not all. And in fact, they’re in decline in some countries. But while the attention is on them (quite rightly so), the percentage of shoppers in each market visiting a discounter in a month varies massively, hence it’s easier to get eye-opening market share growth in markets where the growth opportunity remains high. 2. Ireland: Tesco Express vs Centra vs Spar – differing shopper missions.
Ireland has some of the best c-store in the world. Most shoppers visit many different chains – they don’t just shop at one. So the Tesco Express shopper also shops at many other convenience chains too. Each chain projects themselves in different ways and this is identifiable when we talk to shoppers on subjects like, for example, “buying food for tonight’s tea/dinnerâ€:
40% of shoppers who have shopped at a Tesco Express in the last month buy items for that night’s dinner, but it’s 10% and 20% higher at Centra and Spar/Euro Spar. What does this mean for you/your business? Let us help you.
3. Shell vs BP in Germany
In Germany, Shell and Aral (BP) have well over 2,000 stores each. But the shoppers can vary too. A higher proportion of Shell shoppers consider themselves as “foodies†and a lot more will check for calorie information. A far higher percentage of Shell shoppers consider themselves “financially secure†too.
Aral/BP shoppers are, on the other hand, more likely to leave home without eating breakfast, more will eat lunch on the go and more (proportionately) will snack through the day. An interesting decision for suppliers. Are your products relevant for shoppers of both chains, or more relevant for one over the other?
