Dear Troy,

In its latest report on the sector, influential industry think tank, the IGD, has identified seven convenience store models that are operating globally. The research shows the dynamism of the convenience market and its continued evolution to meet shopper needs.

This month, we feature some of the latest in convenience evolution with a look at Emarat’s new franchise format in Dubai, Fresh Plus. It fits the IGD’s model of a convenience format offering fresh, food-to-go in busy city-centre locations.

In the UK, meanwhile, Petrogas expands its Applegreen forecourt format by delivering fuel and foodservice under a common brand. Elsewhere, convenience moves up the agenda for discounters Aldi and Lidl, as they open in higher footfall locations and benefit from the trend to value shopping. Technology is driving new format development as well, highlighted by developments at Albert Heijn in the Netherlands and Metro in Germany.

Keeping up-to-date with the latest concepts couldn’t be more convenient.
